Process

• Review the discussion guides that follow this page;
• Discuss the differerence between primary and secondary historic sources and the interpretation of historic events (see next page);
• Instruct the students to study the Historic Downtown Tour on this web site;
• Review the materials the students found at the Downtown Tour; discuss the development of downtown, the effects of industrialization and the growth of the city’s population;
• Discuss the pollution of the Nepperhan and ask the students whether the City of Yonkers was justified in demolishing the dams;
• Instruct the students to look into the Archives section on this web site and interpret the event and support their positions with both primary and secondary sources.
