Greeting passengers arriving at the train station, Vinnie Bagwell’s statue of Ella Fitzgerald celebrates the legendary “first lady of jazz” who grew up in downtown Yonkers and would later sing Who cares what banks fail in Yonkers? Long as you’ve got the kiss that conquers—Why should I care?

Downtown’s history is chronicled in a series of murals designed by well–known artist Richard Haas. Opening with an allegorical image of the Nepperhan and the various Amerind tribes that made the banks of the river their home, the series depicts events and landmarks that played pivotal roles in the growth of New York State’s fourth largest city.
